Fast and Furious to End with Two Final Movies

Fast and Furious is undoubtedly one of the most popular but also profitable movie franchise in history. However, Universal is planning to bring the main franchise to a close, with a two-film finale. So, basically, the tenth and eleventh instalment will be also the last ones, as Variety confirms. The movies titles are for now F10 and F11.

Justin Lin, who directed most of the Fast and Furious movies (the third, fourth, fifth and ninth movies) will also direct the las two movies from the original series. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the Fast and Furious cinematic universe will end here.  As the adventures of Dominic Toledo, played by Vin Diesel and the Family will conclude, other spin-off movies based on Fast and Furious universe are already in development at Universal.

We already saw the creatively titled Fast&Furious Presents: Hobbs&Shaw, starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, which grossed $759 million worldwide in 2019.

The latest film in the main “Fast & Furious” series, the tersely titled “F9,” was originally supposed to debut earlier this year, but Universal pushed the project for April 2021 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

That film costars franchise regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson, along with several actors who’ve played memorable roles in past “Fast & Furious” films, including Jordana Brewster, Lucas Black, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron and especially fan favorite Sung Kang in 2006’s “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.” John Cena, meanwhile, makes his “Fast and Furious” debut as Jakob, the newest villain and Dom’s younger brother.

The Fast and Furious original series grossed $ 5.9 billion worldwide, making it the tenth highest grossing film series ever.

Fast and Furious 9 will be released in cinema on 4th of April 2021.
