Romania’s leading cinema operator is expanding its network and arriving in Sibiu, a city designated European Capital of Culture and renowned for one of the best-preserved historic centres in the country, through the acquisition of the multiplex in Promenada Mall. Cinema City is getting closer to audiences in the heart of Transylvania, in a city where elegance and tradition are part of the community’s everyday identity.
The partnership marks the beginning of an exciting new friendship between the country’s largest cinema operator and a city with a distinctive cultural identity. Sibiu is joining the Cinema City network, bringing the most anticipated international releases, exclusive previews and special events to the big screen. After 19 years of presence on the Romanian market, Cinema City is reaffirming its commitment to continued investment and to building strong relationships with audiences.
The acquisition in Sibiu, which becomes the 30th multiplex in the Cinema City network, is part of a broader investment plan: by the end of 2027, the company will invest €15 million in Romania through the renovation of existing locations and the opening of new cinemas. The next step in this strategy will be a new location at Promenada Mall Bucharest, scheduled to open in spring 2027.
THE BIG SCREEN EXPERIENCE
The multiplex at Promenada Mall Sibiu features 9 screens and 1,378 seats, ready to welcome movie lovers into a modernised space. Once integrated into the Cinema City network, the location will give audiences in Sibiu direct access to the same programme of films and experiences already enjoyed by moviegoers in the country’s major cities.
